Bingo in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. This is because the American Indian bands of Oklahoma have operated Bingo sessions for years. Guests from many of the nearby states get in vehicles and travel to Oklahoma to bet on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 IGRA became law after a precedent setting determination by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that instance, 23 of the 39 American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have introduced gambling halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian tribes to take advantage of the gambling rules, and today operate ten casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were founded. automated games such as slot machines weren’t authorized, on the grounds that they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma rules have changed to permit large American Indian wagering casinos. You will now see Native casinos with slot machines, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are not allowed in the American Indian casinos as of yet, although this is simply a waiting game. No one can say whether having different gambling den games in the bingo parlours will do for the popularity of bingo.
