Much has been talked in the press recently about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However will the online adaptation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo has been an classic game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had seen a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban throughout England and Wales.

No more will players be permitted to smoke whilst marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cig and still enjoy monstrous prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the net could never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
