An abundance has been talked in the papers recently about the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in the United Kingdom. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax breaks to help keep the industry alive. But will the internet variation of this traditional game present a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo has been an familiar game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law around Britain.

No more will players be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this established game?

The answer is on the web. People are now realizing that they can bet on bingo using their computer while enjoying a drink and smoke and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
